Mexico to host the 2011 ICO Congress
In its General Assembly held last July 9th in Sydney, Australia, the International Commission for Optics (ICO) designated Mexico as the venue for the 22 ICO Congress. The Mexican delegation led by Dr. Fernando Mendoza on behalf of Dr. Eric Rosas, President of the " Academia Mexicana de Óptica, A.C. (AMO)", received the baton from its Australian counterpart, the Australian Optical Society, within the frame of the 21 ICO Congress, as evidence of the recognition that the international Optics community gives to the strength and importance of the development that Optics has achieved in our country.
The 22 ICO Congress will be held in the city of Puebla in 2011, and it will be Dr. Fernando Mendoza (CIO) and Dr. Alejandro Cornejo (INAOE) who will head the Local Organizing Committee, serving as Chair and Co-Chair, respectively.
We invite you to know this and the other collaboration agreements that AMO has signed with other important scientific associations, and, what is more important, to take advantage of the benefits agreed upon.
México obtiene la sede del Congreso de la ICO para 2011
En su Asamblea General del pasado 9 de julio, realizada en la ciudad de Sidney, Australia, la International Commission for Optics (ICO) otorgó la sede de su 22 Congreso ICO a México. La delegación mexicana, encabezada por el Dr. Fernando Mendoza en representación del Dr. Eric Rosas, presidente de la Academia Mexicana de Óptica, A. C. (AMO); recibió la estafeta de parte de su contraparte australiana, la Australian Optical Society , en el marco del 21 Congreso ICO; como muestra del reconocimiento que la comunidad óptica internacional otorga a la solidez e importancia del desarrollo que la óptica ha alcanzado en nuestro país.
El 22 Congreso ICO, será realizado en la ciudad de Puebla en el año de 2011, serán precisamente los doctores Fernando Mendoza (CIO) y Alejandro Cornejo (INAOE) quienes encabezarán al Comité Organizador Local, fungiendo como Chair y Co-Chair , respectivamente.

Signing of AMO-SMF Agreement of Cooperation
Last June 25th, Doctors Francisco Ramos and Eric Rosas, presidents of the Mexican Society of Physics and the Mexican Academy of Optics, respectively, renewed and old tradition between both scientific association when they ratified, for an additional period of two years, the Cooperation Agreement that has allowed these two academic associations to work with positive synergy in the activities related to Optics in our country.
The agreement of cooperation will be valid through June 30 th , 2010, when the new acting presidents will certainly prolong its validity, since this instrument provides support to the nature of the communities that make up both societies.
As major benefits of this agreement, one can highlight the fact that members of both organizations can register in the congresses and meetings organized by both associations by paying the fees that AMO or SMF require from their respective members, along with the fact that new members of one association may request membership in the other just by covering half of the registration fee.
We invite you to become acquainted with this and the other agreements of cooperation that AMO has signed with other important scientific organizations and, what is most important, to take advantage of the benefits agreed.
Firma de convenio de colaboración AMO - SMF
El pasado 25 de junio, los doctores Francisco Ramos y Eric Rosas, presidentes de la Sociedad Mexicana de Física y de la Academia Mexicana de Óptica, respectivamente; renovaron una añeja tradición entre ambas asociaciones científicas, al ratificar por un periodo de dos años más el Convenio de Colaboración que ha permitido a estas dos asociaciones académicas trabajar con positiva sinergía en las actividades relacionadas con la óptica en nuestro país.
El convenio de colaboración estará vigente hasta el 30 de junio del año 2010, cuando seguramente, los nuevos presidentes en turno, le volverán a otorgar validez; ya que este instrumento otorga respaldo a la naturaleza misma de las comunidades que integran ambas sociedades.
Como principales beneficios de este convenio, se resalta el hecho de que los miembros de ambos organismos pueden registrarse a los congresos y reuniones que organicen las dos asociaciones pagando las tarifas que requieren a sus socios respectivos; y que permiten a sus nuevos socios obtener la membresía en la otra asociación cubriendo únicamente la mitad de su costo de inscripción.

The result of the voting pointed at Eric Rosas Solís, PhD, as the new president , who shall start on the 16th of April, 2008.
Wishing the best luck to Dr. Eric and offering him all his support, Dr. Fernando Mendoza ends his cycle as president of this Academy.
Durante la semana del 25 al 29 de febrero el presidente de la Academia Mexicana de Óptica, el Dr. Fernando Mendoza convocó a elecciones internas con la finalidad de elegir al nuevo presidente de la AMO del siguiente periodo 2008-2010.
El resultado de la votación favoreció al Dr. Eric Rosas Solís, quien tomará posesión de su nuevo cargo el día 16 de abril del 2008.
Deseandole la mejor de las suertes al Dr. Eric y brindandole todo su apoyo, el Dr. Fernando termina su ciclo dentro de la presidencia de esta Academia.
